GLP-1 and GIP Injectables

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) agonists are medications that target specific receptors in the stomach, playing a crucial role in regulating appetite and blood sugar levels. These hormones are classified as incretins, which are naturally released in response to food intake. Their primary function is to send signals to the brain, helping to communicate that the body is full, thus reducing hunger and promoting satiety or fullness. This process is important not only for regulating food intake but also for maintaining balanced blood glucose levels, making these hormones essential in metabolic health.

The main side effects of these peptides are nausea, diarrhea, constipation, injection site redness.

Other Peptides for Weight Loss

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that play various roles in the body, including regulating metabolism and supporting fat loss. Certain peptides are used off-label for weight loss due to their ability to enhance fat burning, boost energy levels, and improve muscle tone. Sermorelin and Lipo-B (MICC) injections are commonly used in conjunction with other weight loss treatments, with each working in unique ways to support fat reduction and overall health.

Sermorelin stimulates the release of growth hormone, which can help increase metabolism and fat burning, while Lipo-B/MICC is a combination of peptides designed to enhance fat metabolism and energy production. These peptides work by promoting the body's natural ability to burn fat, helping individuals achieve their weight loss and fitness goals more effectively. The main side effects range from injection site redness, to increased energy, dizziness, nausea, and anxiety.

Metformin

Metformin is an oral medication that is branded for diabetes treatment, but is used off-label for weight loss.

Metformin works by lowering the amount of glucose (sugar) your liver excretes for your body to use as fuel. When we have too much glucose available, our bodies turn it into fat to store it for later.

Metformin also increases glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) in small amounts, lowering your appetite and slowing down how quickly food leaves your stomach.

The main side effects of metformin are diarrhea.

Topiramate

Topiramate is a medication that is branded for seizures, but is used off label for weight loss.

Topiramate works by suppressing your appetite appetite suppression through modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, causing glutamate inhibition, as well as increased dopamine release.

Glutamate is our brain’s “slow down” neurotransmitter, which assists us in feeling full.

Dopamine drives our cravings. When we have too little dopamine, we may crave different things, like food. It is theorized that increasing dopamine can help reduce those intense cravings that can lead to binging.

The main side effects are drowsiness and tingling in the hands and feet at high doses.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide is an injectable peptide that is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) agonist . GLP-1 is an incretin hormone that plays a role in appetite and digestion. This helps slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach ( gastric emptying), as well as quiet down “food noise” or cravings.

The result of these actions causes you to feel full, reduces appetite, leading to weight loss.

The main side effects of semaglutide are nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and injection site redness.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is an injectable peptide that is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP ( glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide ) agonist that works within the stomach on two different receptor sites. GLP-1 and GIP are both incretin hormones, which are released after eating.

Since tirzepatide acts on two receptor sites, it can cause more weight loss.

The main side effects of tirzepatide are nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and injection site redness.
